Well-known South African sangoma Gogo Maweni, real name Makgotso Lee-Anne Makopo, is gearing up to perform a ritual targeted at slay queens and those who enjoy casual “hook ups”.
Maweni grabbed attention for a recent post on Instagram in which she called upon individuals who fit this specific demographic to reach out for her unique services.
She simply captioned the post: “Let’s face it, at some point it needs to happen 🤍.”
But it wasn’t the traditional process that turned heads online, but rather the title of the prayer: “Slay Queens and Hook Ups Cleansing Ritual”.
@anele_siswana commented on the post: “It’s the title for me, my dearest 😂😍. You understand this space very well.”
@its.madam_ wrote: “The realest I’ve seen today 😂 straight to the point.”
@thembz_mpapele said: “Realest Ish I’ve ever seen on IG all week.”
Maweni engaged with her fans, responding: “Mos def … We know life 😍🙏🏾 and people need to face reality.”
The buzz around her ritual has led to numerous inquiries from potential clients, including one from Zimbabwe.
“I am in Zimbabwe. Can my Zim ancestors connect with u to assist me as well?”
@khanyisiletyalana commented: @dr_maweni, Thokoza gogo. I definitely need this. 😢.”
For those interested in participating in this modern spiritual quest, the ritual comes with a hefty price tag of R10 000.
Maweni will offer her clients a full body steam, ukuphalaza (purging), river cleansing, an animal sacrifice to eradicate bad omens and dark spirits or a spiritual husband, as well as spiritual body cuts glazed with traditional herbs, summoning of ancestors and a home cleansing kit, among other things.
On a personal front, the recent mom of twins, Maweni, continues to face legal turmoil. In 2019, she was charged with assault with intent to cause Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH). The case is ongoing at the Protea Magistrate’s Court.
