Singer and songwriter Busiswa Gqulu is bringing Mzansi energy to Mexico as Bafana Bafana begin their 2026 Fifa World Cup campaign against the host nation.

The award-winning singer is part of a cultural delegation sent to support the national team through a partnership between the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture and apparel brand Old School.

From the streets of Pachuca, where Bafana Bafana set up their training camp, to the buzz of Mexico City, Busiswa has been sharing moments from her journey while flying the South African flag high.

Speaking to “Independent Media Lifestyle”, the singer said that her role goes beyond performing.

“We’re bringing the spirit and the energy of Bafana Bafana, the vibe and the dance that brings people together all over the world, but especially in South Africa,” she said.

Busiswa added that one of the most exciting parts of the trip has been seeing how closely music and sport are connected in both countries.

“What we’ve learned is that, especially in Mexico as well, music and sport go together and unify people. That’s what we are here to represent as representatives of our country.”

A major highlight for the star was meeting the Bafana Bafana players as they prepared for one of the biggest moments of their careers.

“Meeting the players just before a very big moment in their journey as athletes was inspiring. As somebody who is always aiming to be on world stages, I felt very inspired and humbled.”

With kickoff approaching, Busiswa also had a message for supporters back home.

“We need our energies and our spirits to be unified, volcanic with excitement. The backing of Bafana from us needs to be indomitable.”

She believes South Africans have every reason to dream big.

“Our spirits are indomitable. We are a nation of winners and we continue to inspire each other with wins.”

As for Bafana Bafana, she expects the players to rise to the occasion.

“They are definitely going to inspire a nation of winners.”
