Tunisia and Botswana played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in Rades on Monday night as Matchday 2 of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027 qualifiers continued across the continent.
The Eagles of Carthage remain winless in Group H after opening their campaign with a 1-1 draw against co-hosts Uganda. Botswana matched the hosts blow for blow to secure a valuable point on the road following their opening 2-2 draw with Libya.
Thatayaone Kgamanyane gave the Zebras a surprise 37th-minute lead, but Tunisia responded through Hazem Mastouri, who struck twice either side of half-time to turn the contest in favour of the hosts. Botswana showed great resilience, drawing level on the hour mark through Lebogang Ditsele to ensure the points were shared.
The result leaves both Tunisia and Botswana tied on two points in Group H, ahead of Tuesday’s meeting between Uganda and Libya. Every point carries extra weight in Group H, as Uganda are already assured of a spot at the finals as co-hosts alongside Kenya and Tanzania. Consequently, only the highest-placed team outside of Uganda will qualify.
Elsewhere on Monday, DR Congo maintained their perfect start in Group E with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe in Harare. Yoane Wissa proved the star of the show, scoring one and setting up Samuel Moutoussamy before Marshall Munetsi pulled a late goal back for the hosts. DR Congo sit top of Group E with six points from two matches.
In the same section, Equatorial Guinea picked up their first win as Loren Zuniga scored in the opening minute to secure a 1-0 victory over Sierra Leone in neutral Yaounde. Behind DR Congo (6 points), Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea hold three points, with Sierra Leone yet to score a point.
In Group F, Burkina Faso moved onto four points following a 1-0 win over Central African Republic in Casablanca, with teenager Aboubacar Camara scoring the decisive winner on the hour mark in just his second senior appearance. Mauritania (3 points) and Benin (1 point) complete their Matchday 2 fixtures in Abidjan on Tuesday.
