“We wanted to honour the meaning of the words in the song by creating a cinematic visualiser,” said Amy Tjasink.

“Noordhoek Beach felt like the perfect spot to capture the feelings that I experienced while writing the song.”

The South African singer-songwriter has released the official music video for her single “Shadows of the Sun”, a heartfelt tribute to her father and the bond they continue to share through music.

Filmed at Noordhoek Beach and Chapman’s Peak in the Western Cape, the video turns a deeply personal family story into a message of hope, resilience and perseverance.

The project was conceived by Tjasink and brought to life by videographer and editor Josh Adams, with camera assistant James Cawood.

Together, they transformed the emotional themes of the song into a visual story that follows a journey from grief to healing.

The video opens with Tjasink standing alone on an empty beach, carrying her guitar through a landscape that reflects the loneliness often associated with loss.

As the story unfolds, she discovers her father’s guitar inside a guitar case alongside photographs and memories from their life together.

Those moments become a reminder that while circumstances may change, the people who shape us never truly leave us.

As the visual progresses, the mood shifts. What begins as a story rooted in sadness gradually becomes one of strength and determination.

Through music, dance and reflection, Tjasink comes to realise that her father’s support remains a guiding force in her life.

“The video is really about finding the strength to keep going,” she said. “Every guitar strum, every chord, every note is my way of carrying our dream forward.”

The final scene takes place on Chapman’s Peak overlooking her hometown. There, she raises her guitar towards the sky, symbolising a promise to continue pursuing the dream she and her father once shared.

Interestingly, Tjasink originally planned to include old performance footage of herself and her father.

However, after struggling to find usable recordings, she decided that photographs and symbolic storytelling would better capture the memories she wanted to preserve.

“The best way to honour him was through the memories themselves,” she explained. “Those moments will live on forever through this song and this video.”

The music video also marks a full-circle moment in her career. More than a decade ago, Noordhoek Beach was the location where she filmed her first music video alongside Adams and her father.

“It felt incredibly special returning there,” she said. “My upcoming album has a strong theme of growing up in the Deep South, so including Noordhoek Beach became part of that story too.”

Released in May, “Shadows of the Sun” quickly connected with listeners through its honest storytelling and uplifting message.

The song was inspired by Tjasink’s father surviving a stroke that permanently changed his life. Despite the physical and mental challenges that followed, their shared love of music remained unchanged.

“My dad has always been my biggest supporter,” she said. “Music was something we shared and it was both of our dreams. Even though so much has changed, that belief hasn’t gone anywhere. It’s still with me every single day.”

The single serves as the lead release from her upcoming album, “Valley Girl”, which is set for release on August 14.

Following the success of her breakout hit “Feels Like Mzansi”, Tjasink is entering a new chapter, one shaped by gratitude, family and the enduring power of music.
