Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos will keep a keen eye on Lyle Foster’s fitness after the striker was forced to leave the field during Burnleys Championship match against West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday.

After taking the field as a second-half substitute, the striker was replaced about 25 minutes later after going down on the Turf Moor pitch clutching his leg.

According to the Burnley Express, the club will assess Foster, although first-team coach Mike Jackson doesn’t believe the issue is too serious, suggesting he could have continued playing had he needed to.

But Foster will have to be looked at by the medical team before a decision is made on his availability for Saturday’s trip to Swansea City.

“I don’t know, I think it might have been a bit of a dead leg,” Jackson said. “But at the time we only had one more spot in terms of subs, so if we didn’t do it then, we’d end up with a man less, so we had to make a call from the side.

“Even though he might have been able to run it off a little bit, it was too close at the end of the game. We couldn’t afford to go down to 10 men if he didn’t recover, so that’s the reason we had to make that decision.”

Bafana have two massive Fifa World Cup qualifiers coming up later this month, with the South Africans taking on Lesotho Friday, March 21 at home before travelling to Benin for a clash on Tuesday, March 25.

Foster recently scored in Burnley’s 4-0 win over Luton Town over the weekend. If fit, he could be in contention for their match against Swansea on Saturday.
