Bafana Bafana star Mbekezeli Mbokazi has already attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in world football, according to his agent, Basia Michaels.

“If you ask me, I really never imagined speaking to some of the people that I’m speaking to right now,” Michaels told SportsBoom.co.za.

Mbokazi is currently on the books of Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States.

The 20-year-old earns a base salary of $593,000 (R9.91 million) per year at Chicago Fire, while his guaranteed compensation stands at $655,620 (R10.96 million).

Mbokazi’s Rising Stock: Interest from Prestigious Teams After FIFA World Cup Success

Following an outstanding FIFA World Cup campaign with Bafana, Mbokazi’s stock has risen considerably, and Michaels confirmed there has been no shortage of interest.

“There’s been enquiries. There haven’t been offers. I haven’t received a single offer in writing. I’ve gotten a lot of enquiries from really great teams, prestigious teams,” continued Michaels.

“Mbokazi has had a great (FIFA World Cup) campaign. The club has to be the right club. The league has to be the right league.”

While MLS is already a highly respected league, a move to one of Europe’s top competitions would represent another step forward in Mbokazi’s career.

Michaels believes the defender is ready to make that leap.

“The price has to be the right price because Chicago Fire bought him. And the evaluation of the player and what they’re willing to pay the player has to be what we want to accept.

“The most important thing is to find him in a league, for me personally, a top-five league. I believe Mbokazi deserves to play in the Champions League; there’s no question about it.”
