Be wary of Mamelodi Sundowns finding their stride, former Brazilian Sipho Ndzuzo

Though they are still regarded as favourites to win the Betway Premiership title, Mamelodi Sundowns have not hit the midway point of the season in their customary dominant fashion, but this is no cause for concern according to former Brazilian midfielder Sipho Ndzuzo.

Sundowns are currently second on the table with 41 points, behind Orlando Pirates by a goal difference of one.

The margin couldn’t be tighter at the moment, which serves to grow the belief that Pirates can finally usurp the Sundowns’ throne.

Pirates, of course, have finished second to Sundowns in their last three campaigns.

Mamelodi Sundowns: Navigating Transition Amidst Title Defence Challenges

“Mamelodi Sundowns have definitely started this league season differently compared to the dominant, fast-starting side we’re used to seeing,” Ndzuzo told SportsBoom.co.za.

“In previous campaigns, Sundowns would impose themselves from match one, controlling tempo, possession, and results with confidence and consistency. This season, however, the momentum seemed disrupted.”

Ndzuzo intimated that Sundowns are a team in transition, but that doesn’t mean they won’t still walk away with the title.

“Coach Miguel Cardoso made several changes early on, rotating combinations and experimenting with personnel.

“While squad evolution is necessary, too many adjustments at once can cost rhythm. The foundation is there; now it’s about making a clear statement on the pitch.”

Sundowns have won the last eight league titles in a row, and even though they had slipped behind Pirates after 15 games, they were still favourites at the halfway stage of the season.

Whether this season will turn out like the last eight, only time will tell.
