Late award-winning rapper AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes today January 28, celebrates his heavenly birthday.

In celebration of what would have been his 38th birthday his friends, family and fans across the country are paying tribute to the award-winning rapper.

AKA was shot dead outside Wish restaurant on Florida Road, Durban KwaZulu Natal in February 2023. His friend Chef Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, was also killed.

Lynn Forbes, AKA’s mother shared an emotional tribute on Instagram remembering the day her first child and son came into the world.

Early this month, his mother shared a heartwarming memory of her family on Instagram.

In a post featuring a video GIF of herself with AKA, she looked back on a weekly tradition she called “Forbes Fun Fridays”.

“Kiernan, Kairo and I had this thing called Forbes Fun Fridays, where we did unplanned, random things together, when possible, on the Fridays when Kairo came to stay with Kiernan for the week and I would move in for the week to help him take care of Kairo,” Lynn wrote.

“Those were special times,” she added.

For Lynn, the Fridays were more than just a routine. They were moments of connection, laughter and family closeness.

One of the most emotional tributes came from his nine-year-old daughter, Kairo Forbes. She posted a touching throwback clip of the two baking a birthday cake together.

In other recent developments regarding AKA’s case, the Correctional Services Department has moved the seven men charged with the murders of AKA and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane from Westville Prison to Ebongweni Super Maximum Correctional Centre in Kokstad.

This was confirmed during the third court appearance of the two Ndimande brothers, Siyabonga Gezani and Malusi Dave, who were extradited from Eswatini on November 25, 2025.

The matter has been postponed to February 20 to allow all processes to unfold, including the possibility of relocating the accused back to Westville so their legal team can consult effectively.
