NICD says pregnant women and those with chronic illnesses at risk of serious illness from the flu
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has warned that pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses are at risk of serious illness from the flu.
The institute says it has received reports of influenza clusters in schools and workplaces.
It has encouraged South Africans to take the flu vaccine.
The groups at high risk are also encouraged to seek medical help early if they catch the flu.
City sets aside more than R700m toward waste management
The City of Cape Town says its Urban Waste Management Directorate has set aside around R714million for this financial year. The City says that this will be to engineer interventions at landfill sites and increasing building capacity for recycling.
IMF warns SA government finances could get worse
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that South Africa’s government finances could get worse in the medium term.
This is due to the worsening energy crisis, lower tax revenue, greater spending on higher wages and higher borrowing costs for the government.
The IMF says it supports the South African Reserve Bank’s attempts to bring inflation back within its target range.
COCT reward of R1m still up for offer which could lead to arrest of those responsible for murder of City employee in Delft
The City of Cape Town says that a million rand reward is still up for offer for any information which could lead to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the murder of a City of Cape Town employee who was killed at a construction site in Delft. The City says the reward was initially R100,000 but has now been increased to R1million. The City says that anyone with information can contact 0800 11 00 77 anonymously.
