The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaDukuza has heralded the removal of the KwaDukuza Municipality mayor as a new era for the municipality’s residents.

It stated that the removal of Ali Ngidi as the mayor of the municipality was long overdue, describing his tenure as marked by scandals and arrogance.

The ANC task team announced yesterday that it had requested the mayor to tender his resignation, and he complied. This is the second time that the mayorship of KwaDukuza has changed hands in the past few months; the former mayor, Lindi Nhaca, was removed by the then ANC leadership. She later accused the provincial secretary, Bheki Mtolo, of targeting her.

In a statement, the DA said, “Under his watch, service delivery collapsed, and basic municipal functions deteriorated while he embarked on a relentless pursuit to support events and vanity projects designed to boost his personal image.”

“The people of KwaDukuza deserve leaders that serve the public, not their own egos through luxury brands and bloated security and media details. Good governance can no longer be delivered by the ANC in KwaDukuza, and the DA will continue to expose the political shenanigans of those elected to power and their deployed administration,”  it concluded.

The ANC leader Mike Mabuyakhulu, when announcing that the mayor had been removed, stated that the matter would be held accountable for any excesses while in office that did not have the permission of the council, including the rental of a car. The mayor has to pay back from his pocket the portion of that expenditure.

The ANC said it will work to fill these positions quickly.

Sifiso Zulu, the spokesperson for the municipality, said Council has not received any correspondence either from the ANC or its deployees.

He said he will be consulting with the outgoing mayor on the allegations made by the DA.
