South African DJ and record producer Miss Pru, whose real name is Prudence Sebalo, has responded to comments suggesting that she has “fallen off”.

Writing on Facebook, she addressed the criticism directly and explained her journey as an independent artist.

“To those who keep saying I ‘fell off,’ I see the comments, I’ve even glanced at some of your profiles and lol, but I’m not going to feed into negativity,” she wrote.

“Truth is, every artist goes through phases. For some, it’s growth, for others it’s struggle, and for me, it’s been about figuring out how to move in this new space, especially as an indie.”

She admitted that there are moments when she loses her spark, but returning to her mixes always brings her back to her purpose.

“Whenever I dive back into doing my mixes, it reminds me why I started in the first place. That’s my foundation, and it keeps me grounded,” she said.

Pru also expressed gratitude to her supporters. “To those who continue to ride with me through all my ups and downs: thank you. Your support doesn’t go unnoticed. Even though I’ve been more intentional about stepping back from social media, I still see your love, and it means everything.”

She revealed that fans have been asking whether she will release another hip hop track. While she has shifted focus, she did not rule it out completely.

“Honestly, part of me resisted because of the path I’m on now, but if the right record comes along, I’ll drop one last one. That’ll be in 2026.

“Until then, I need the space to rebuild, refocus and give you the part of me that’s most true right now: the mixes #GrooveRoster. That’s my little crash-out moment. Ok bye,” she concluded.

Pru is best known for hit songs such as “Ameni”, “Price to Pay”, “Phumelela” and “Ugesi”. Her contribution to South African music, particularly hip hop and house, has made her a recognised figure in the industry.

Over the years, she has received awards and nominations that reflect her influence as both a DJ and producer.

In 2020, she reflected on her 11 years in the industry, describing them as a period of growth and constant learning.

“The past 11 years have been a learning curve. In the first couple of years, I learned how to improve my DJing skills. Then, I was mentored by someone, and fortunately, I got to meet many people in the industry.”

“Every two years or so, I get to learn something from different people who would help me get to where I am right now.”

Beyond music, Pru has invested her energy into business. This year, she marked the second anniversary of her beauty spa, Sedi Beauty Wellness.

The spa, which turned two years old, has become another outlet through which she connects with people outside of the recording booth and performance stage.
