The new packages will launch on September 17, 2026, replacing the current structure as MultiChoice responds to changing viewing habits and customer needs.
The announcement was made on Monday at a media briefing at MultiChoice City in Randburg by Willington Ngwepe, chief executive officer of MultiChoice (Pty) Ltd.
The revamp is being positioned as the company’s biggest rethink of its package structure in 15 years.
What are the new DStv streaming packages?
Subscribers will be able to choose from five packages:
Starter – R99 a month: 85 channels
Select – R299 a month: 100 channels
Sports – R399 a month: 115 channels
Movies & Series – R500 a month: 115 channels
Premium – R799 a month: 130 channels
Ngwepe said the packages were designed around specific customer needs rather than overlapping offerings trying to cater for everyone.
The changes are also intended to help MultiChoice grow its subscriber base while retaining existing customers.
The new subscriber packages will launch in the South African market on September 17, 2026, and will consist of five options: Starter, Select, Sports, Movies & Series, and Premium.
What sports are included in the R399 Sports package?
The new Sports package costs R399 a month and includes more than 115 channels, with 17 dedicated sports channels.
It will include:
Premier League football
UEFA football
PSL
Cricket
Local rugby
One URC match a week
UFC
However, some premium sporting content will remain exclusive to the Premium package.
Which sports remain on Premium?
According to the announcement, Formula 1, golf, ATP tennis and other premium sporting content will remain on Premium.
This means the R399 Sports package will not provide access to all of DStv’s premium sporting content.
What is included in Movies & Series?
The Movies & Series package costs R500 a month and brings M-Net below the Premium tier for the first time.
The package also includes:
kykNET
Movie channels
Discovery
BBC Earth
This represents a significant change for subscribers who want access to M-Net content without paying for the top-tier Premium package.
What new DStv channels are being introduced?
DStv is also launching a number of new destination channel brands as part of the revamp.
These include:
Wethu+
SuperSport Kickoff
SuperSport Football Plus
M-Net Movies+
Stars
Legends
Ngwepe said new and more exciting content would form part of MultiChoice’s broader strategy to provide value to customers, rather than relying on packaging changes alone.
Why is DStv changing its packages?
The changes come as DStv faces increasing competition in the streaming market and pressure on household budgets.
Ngwepe said the company wanted to respond to changing customer needs and viewing habits while giving subscribers greater choice.
He also stressed that packaging was only one part of MultiChoice’s strategy, with investment in content and new destination channels also forming part of the offering.
The overhaul marks a major shift in how DStv packages its streaming offering, with customers able to select tiers more closely aligned with their preferred content.
