The Bisho High Court in the Eastern Cape has sentenced a former 51-year-old police Sergeant for killing a man he accused of dating his wife.
Dumile Elephant Ndlovu was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment for murder and assaulting his wife with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Spokesperson of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Lizzy Suping, said Ndlovu who was stationed at Kleinboelhoek in Queenstown, assaulted his wife and killed her suspected boyfriend in April 2024.
Suping said Ndlovu accused his wife after he went through her phone.
“On the day of the incident, the accused officer forced her into his car where he drove off to the deceased’s home and shot him twice outside his house,” said Suping.
After killing the man, Suping said Ndlovu took his wife to a secluded place where he severely assaulted her.
“She was able to run away and hid in the nearby bushes. After he couldn’t locate her, he drove off. She dragged herself to the main road as she had suffered a broken leg. A passerby took her to hospital for medical treatment,” she said.
Upon learning of his wife’s hospitalisation in East London, Ndlovu visited her and instructed her to falsely report to medical staff that her injuries were sustained in a hit-and-run incident, rather than disclosing the true circumstances.
He was sentenced to 15 years for murder and five years for assault.
“Ndlovu will effectively serve 18 years after the court ordered that two years of the sentence for assault to run concurrently with the sentence for murder,” said Suping.
