Kenyan-born TikTokker and content creator, Elsa Majimbo, ruffled some feathers recently after revealing the list of things she misses in South Africa, notably crime.

The 24-year-old took to X on July 2 to share how much she loves Mzansi; however, netizens found her post rather insulting considering SA’s crime rate.

“I miss living in South Africa so much. I miss groove, I miss watching people’s phones get stolen in real time, I miss biltong and braai and Savanna. One of the best stages of my life,” the award-winning comedian said.

However, Majimbo was criticised by netizens online after including the phone-snatching joke in the list of things she misses.

@keketso_P commented: “The obsession with making South Africa look bad … even when it’s not necessary. The stolen phone part? Was that really necessary?”

While @XUFFLER added: “You had to add that phones being stolen part to make us look bad.”

Even though some online users did not like the crime joke, others found it funny and added that she should come back and visit again.

“Lmao come back,” @IsahSbu said.

“Lol watching peoples’ phones getting stolen in real times, uyaxoka (you are lying) but shoo we miss you too,” @siya_qha added.

Majimbo rose to fame in 2020 during lockdown and became known for her comedic skits while eating chips and wearing black shades on social media.

In addition, she visited SA for work-related purposes in 2021 after she became a viral sensation and has received several nods from celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Lupita Nyong’o, Joan Smalls, Anderson Cooper, Zozibini Tunzi, Snoop Dogg, and Cassper Nyovest.

Majimbo has since relocated and has been living in the US since 2021, after moving from South Africa.

The content creator and model has graced the covers of “Teen Vogue”, Verified Hapar’s “Baazar”, “GQ South Africa” and several other prominent magazines.
