It was meant to be a campaign launch, but the arrival of the Mseleku family turned Gateway Mall’s KFC into a hive of excitement as scores of fans gathered for a chance to meet the stars of uThando Nes’thembu.
Musa Mseleku and his four wives brought their larger-than-life family presence to the Durban mall as they launched their new KFC campaign, centred around the Mighty Bucket for One and its cheeky “no sharing” theme.
The event brought together the much-loved reality television family, with fans forming long queues under the warm sun as they waited for their turn to meet the Mselekus.
Among those who made the journey was Sibongile Shandu, who travelled from Verulam to Gateway specifically to meet the family.
For Shandu, however, the day was about more than simply meeting television personalities. She said the Mseleku family had become an inspiration to her after watching their journey unfold on uThando Nes’thembu.
“uThando Nes’thembu has shown us that you can grow from nothing into something big. During Season 1, we saw that they were an average family, a family that was not that wealthy. But now they are on another level. Even the children of the isithembu family have grown,” Shandu said.

From reality TV family to household brand
The Mseleku family has spent years allowing viewers into their lives through the reality show, and their growing popularity has seen the Mseleku surname become a recognisable brand of its own.
Mseleku and his wives spoke about the importance of working together as a family and how their collective journey has opened doors for them.
Thobile “MaKhumalo” Mseleku said the family was thrilled to be partnering with the fast-food giant.
“We are very happy to share this deal with KFC; working is our thing; we are very happy to be part of KFC’s family,” MaKhumalo said.
The campaign also brought the four wives together at the event: first wife Busisiwe “MaCele” Mseleku, second wife Nokukhanya “MaYeni” Mseleku, third wife Thobile “MaKhumalo” Mseleku and fourth wife Mbali “MaNgwabe” Mseleku.
For the family, the campaign was another opportunity to show the power of their collective brand while connecting directly with the fans who have followed their journey over the years.
‘If you are many, buy many’
Mseleku appeared to embrace the playful spirit of the campaign, pointing to the irony of a “for one” bucket being promoted by a family known for its polygamous household.
The reality star joked that while the Mighty Bucket for One was not meant for sharing, those in a polygamous family could simply buy more than one.
