DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small are set to bring the Scorpion Kings Live experience to Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium on Saturday, September 19, with more than 70 000 fans expected to attend.
The amapiano stars will headline a full-scale celebration of South African music and culture, with performances spanning amapiano, hip hop, Maskandi, Lekompo and other genres.
With tens of thousands of concert-goers expected, organisers have urged fans to plan their journeys in advance and arrive early.
What time does Scorpion Kings Live start?
Gates will open at 12.00pm, with the pre-show scheduled to run from 1.00pm to 6.30pm.
The main show will then take place from 7.00pm to 10.30pm.
Fans should take note that no entry will be permitted after 9.00pm, meaning late arrivals risk being turned away.
The event will also feature food, refreshments, fashion and brand activations, with partners including SABC 1, Sprite, RocoMamas, Castle Lite, Veev, Gautrain, SAMPRA, GalxBoy, McCafé, Red Bull, the Gauteng Provincial Government and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
The event will also be broadcast on SABC 1 from 8.00pm.
How to get to FNB Stadium
With more than 70 000 people expected, significant traffic and congestion are anticipated around the stadium.
Organisers are encouraging fans to use public transport or the official Park & Ride services where possible.
Gautrain, the event’s official transport partner, will operate a complimentary bus service between Park Station and FNB Stadium.
Buses will run from 10.00am to 8.30pm on Saturday, and return buses will operate after the show, with the last bus leaving FNB Stadium at 1.30am.
The last Gautrain train from Park Station is scheduled to depart at 2.00am.
Rea Vaya will also operate dedicated event services connecting areas including Soweto, the Joburg CBD, Alexandra and Sandton with FNB Stadium.
Before the concert, services from Thokoza Park and Indingilizi in Dobsonville to Rea Vaya Soccer City Station will operate at 15-minute intervals between 11.00am and 8.00pm.
Services from Ellis Park East and Ellis Park North to FNB Stadium will operate between 12.00.pm and 8pm.
After the show, event buses will begin departing FNB Stadium from 11.30pm, with the last services to Thokoza Park and Indingilizi scheduled for 1.30am. Final event buses from the Joburg CBD to Alexandra and Sandton will depart at 2.00am
Rea Vaya account-based ticketing cards are available at stations for R30, and fans are advised to ensure they have enough funds for their return journey.
Park & Ride and parking
Fans driving to the concert can use the official Park & Ride service, which allows them to park at designated sites before taking dedicated shuttles to the stadium.
Park & Ride tickets are available through Webtickets and organisers have encouraged fans to purchase them ahead of time rather than attempting to find parking around the stadium on the day.
Limited parking is also available within the FNB Stadium precinct, but fans must purchase a parking ticket through Webtickets.
No tickets will be sold at FNB Stadium
Concert-goers have been warned that the stadium will not sell tickets.
Tickets should only be purchased through the official ticketing platforms, Webtickets and the Scorpion Kings Live website.
Organisers have also cautioned fans against purchasing tickets from unofficial sellers and resale platforms.
Tickets purchased through unauthorised channels, including Viagogo, may not be valid and organisers cannot guarantee entry.
Security beefed up for Scorpion Kings Live
Safety will be a major focus at the stadium, with organisers saying security capacity has been doubled for the event.
The same security company that managed security operations for the Chris Brown and Travis Scott concerts has been appointed for Scorpion Kings Live.
According to organisers, the event’s security plan has been approved by the Joint Operations Committee (JOC) and will include more than 400 marshals, dedicated security personnel, SAPS and JMPD officers, FNB Stadium security teams and extensive Emergency Medical Services.
The measures are aimed at managing the large crowd and providing medical and emergency support throughout the event.
What can fans take into the stadium?
Fans are encouraged to keep their belongings to a minimum and have their valid digital tickets ready when they arrive.
Formal vendors inside the stadium will operate on a cashless basis, while informal vendors will accept both cash and cashless payments.
Fans should therefore bring a bank card or another suitable cashless payment method.
Only flat-top umbrellas without pointed tips will be allowed into the venue.
Professional cameras are strictly prohibited.
FNB Stadium is wheelchair accessible, with all entry points and gates providing wheelchair access. Fans requiring assistance are encouraged to arrive early and speak to venue staff.
