Gospel star Mmatema cancels album tour to focus on spiritual and physical rest

Prominent South African gospel singer, songwriter and media personality Mmatema Gavu (née Moremi) has announced the cancellation of her upcoming album tour.

In a statement, she wrote, “Family, I would like to take this moment to thank you all for the incredible love and support you continue to show me. Your prayers, messages and unwavering encouragement never go unnoticed. I am deeply, deeply grateful.”

“After much prayer, reflection and guidance from the Lord, I have decided to officially cancel the upcoming album tour. This has not been an easy decision, but it is one I am at peace with.”

Mmatema shared a pinned video on her social media that offers further insight into her decision.

“In 1 Kings 4:7, we read about the woman whose oil stopped flowing only when there were no more vessels to fill. The Lord reminded me through this scripture that sometimes, when there are no more cups to pour into, it is time to shut the door, rest and refill.”

“As ministers, we often give and pour continuously until the oil runs low. God has lovingly called me into an intimate season with Him, to refill, to rest and to restore both spiritually and physically.”

She also cautioned fans against purchasing tickets from unauthorised sellers.

“This cancellation is official, and I will communicate directly when the time is right to gather again. Please note that I am still fulfilling the remaining commitments I made for this year, so you will still see me at those. It is only the tour that has been cancelled.”

Mmatema encouraged fans to continue engaging with her music and online content.

“In the meantime, please continue to stream my album, ‘Heart of Gratitude’, and watch the music videos on the Mmatema Music YouTube channel.

“You can also subscribe to my YouTube channel, where I’ll continue sharing the Word, vlogs and more moments with you. I love you all so much, and I truly can’t wait to see you soon.”

Mmatema first rose to national prominence as the runner-up in the eleventh season of “Idols SA”.

Earlier this year, she released her second album, “Heart of Gratitude”. The gospel album reflects her personal journey of faith and gratitude, combining live performances with deeply spiritual themes.

The cancellation affects remaining tour dates, including stops in Botswana and Johannesburg.

According to Mmatema, this decision allows her to enter “a season of rest, refilling and spiritual and physical restoration.”

The Polokwane leg of the tour, however, took place as scheduled in October, giving fans there the chance to experience her live performance.
