The businessman who was brutally murdered after being kidnapped was laid to rest on Friday.
Albatross Transport Service owner, Roger Brijlal, a well-known figure in the logistics industry and a philanthropist, was last seen leaving for work on September 9.
His car was found hours later in Joe Slovo, prompting his fiancée to report him missing. His body was discovered in Philippi East on September 16, though his family was only informed a week later.
His final service was held at the Hillsong Church in Century City on Friday, where nearly 400 people gathered to pay their respects.
The Milnerton man was not only a logistics entrepreneur but also a devoted philanthropist and golfer.
Before starting his business, Albatross, he served in the Navy for two years and borrowed around R30,000 to purchase his first van.
Over the course of two decades, he grew the company from a single van to a fleet of vans, boats, and several luxury vehicles, creating jobs and opportunities for many.
A family spokesperson said: “We can’t just leave it like that. We can’t believe he was kidnapped, and now we know his body was found, and the people responsible are still on the loose. The family is mourning and wants justice.”
Brijlal’s impact extended far beyond business as he founded the Albatross Care, a non-profit, providing shoes, meals, and sports sponsorships for children in underprivileged communities.
“He had a huge heart. We can’t rest in peace until justice has taken its course. He gave so many people jobs,” the spokesperson said.
“He created stability in the maritime industry and supported children in sports. He used to pay for their activities and provide for the community quietly. It’s barbaric the way he was taken, shot three times with his hands bound. These are evil people who did this.”
The murder has left both the family and employees reeling.
“Because of his death, a lot of people are up in the air,” the spokesperson said.
“He ensured people had salaries, so we’ve got to continue his legacy.”
Western Cape Police have confirmed that the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation, Multi-Disciplinary Anti-Kidnapping Task Team detectives are investigating the kidnapping case, registered at Milnerton SAPS on September 9. Both the kidnapping and murder cases remain under active investigation.
Spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said: “Detectives traced the body of an as yet unidentified man to the Salt River mortuary. The deceased was found in Philippi East on September 16, 2025.”
Brijlal is survived by three children and a legacy of generosity.
