I know how easy it is to get stuck listening to the same songs over and over. This year, I want to find music that inspires me, and I want you to do the same.

Music has a way of shifting your mood, giving you energy or just helping you think. The good news is, discovering it doesn’t have to be complicated. I’ve found a few ways that help me find songs that really connect.

I start by paying attention to the music I already love. I ask myself why certain songs stick with me. Is it the lyrics, the beat or just the feeling I get when I listen?

Once I understand that, I look for other music with a similar vibe. You can use Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube or any streaming platform to explore suggestions based on your current playlists.

Sometimes the first few listens might not click, but if you give it a chance, you might find a track that surprises you.

I also follow artists that I already enjoy. I check out their new releases, social media posts and collaborations. You’d be surprised how often I find new favourite songs this way.

If an artist I like works with someone I’ve never heard before, I make sure to give that person a listen. One discovery often leads to another. You can do the same.

Browsing curated playlists is another way I find inspiration. I check playlists from streaming services, radio stations and even social media trends. You don’t have to limit yourself to what you know. Some of the songs I now love came from a playlist that I randomly opened.

Try to listen with an open mind and notice what grabs your attention. You’ll start to see patterns in what moves you.

Reading about artists helps too. I often read interviews, articles or even watch podcasts where they talk about their process. Knowing the story behind a song can make you feel it differently.

You might hear lyrics or melodies in a new way when you understand the artist’s intent. I’ve had songs that I didn’t think much of at first become favourites after learning more about them.

I also make a point to experience live music when I can, even if it’s virtual. Seeing a performance adds a layer you can’t get from just listening. You notice details, energy and emotion that make songs more memorable.

Talking to friends about what they’re listening to works too. You might discover a track you would never have searched for yourself.

Finally, I give myself permission to step outside my usual tastes. Sometimes the music that inspires you the most comes from a genre or artist that you wouldn’t normally try.

Don’t overthink it – just listen and see what sticks. You might be surprised at what moves you.
