The Electoral Commission said day two of the voters registration weekend got off to an even better start.
It said the majority of registrations (90%) are being conducted in person at registration stations across the country.
“Despite the inclement weather conditions, in-person registrations are ongoing. Initial indications are that KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape are leading in total registration activity, followed by Gauteng and Limpopo,” the Commission said.
The Commission urges all eligible South Africans who have not yet registered, as well as those needing to update their details, to take advantage of the remaining hours of the second and final day of the voter registration weekend to register ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections on November 4.
Voting stations across the country will remain open until 5pm to assist voters in registering and verifying their registration information.
South Africans are also reminded that online registration remains available beyond the weekend as an additional modality of registration.
By midday on Saturday, June 20, the Commission confirmed that over 330,000 South Africans registered to vote.
Early indications point to young persons as the majority of applicants.
The Commission expressed its appreciation to the 48,212 electoral officials for ensuring that the registration operations commenced as planned.
Voters are reminded that a valid South African identity document (a green barcoded identity book, smart ID card, or valid temporary identity certificate issued by the Department of Home Affairs) is required to complete their registration or update their details.
The Electoral Commission will announce the outcome of the voter registration weekend at a media briefing on Monday, June 22, 2026.
