The City of Cape Town says that if your combined monthly income your household is less than R22,000 then you can qualify for rates and services relief. Once you are registered, the City says you will only need to re-apply every 12months from the date of approval. Pensioners and residents over the age of 60 will however remain valid until the next municipal valuation of their property which is expected at the end of June 2026.
Eskom hopes microgrids will be part of the solution to our energy crisis
As the country is again gripped by yet another day of rolling blackouts, Eskom believes its roll out of microgrids may be the solution to the country’s electricity problems especially in geographically challenged areas. The power utility launched its first microgrid technology at Swartkopdam about 150km’s from Upington earlier this week. The microgrid technology at the dam will provide power to 39 households which did not have access to electricity before the project.
Takatso will be acquiring a 51% stake in SAA
The Competition Tribunal has conditionally approved the proposed merger of Takatso Aviation and South African Airways. Takatso will be acquiring a 51-percent stake in SAA from the government. The Tribunal’s approval is subject to a moratorium on retrenchments, and disinvestment by Takatso’s minority shareholders.
Correctional Services Department does not condone people dressed in prison uniform
The Department of Correctional Services has noted videos doing the rounds on TikTok and other social media platforms posted by private citizens dressed in replica uniform for inmates and prison officials. The department says it does not condone this as such conduct is illegal and punishable by law. The department says that even if it is for content creation, person’s found breaking section 124 of the Correctional Services Act will be punished by law.
