A 38-year-old woman was rescued from Lion’s Head on Saturday afternoon after she slipped and injured herself while descending the popular hiking trail.

According to Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) Western Cape, the hiker had been walking with friends when she lost her footing and fell a short distance.

She was unable to continue the hike and her companions immediately called the WSAR emergency number.

A paramedic from the Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS treated the woman at the scene before she was secured into a stretcher and carried down by a team of volunteers and professionals, supported by SANParks Table Mountain National Park rangers. She was later transported to the hospital by ambulance for further treatment.

The rescue operation was concluded shortly after 3pm.

WSAR thanked its members and partner agencies for their quick response and dedication. “As always, our teams responded without hesitation, driven by a shared passion for helping others. We’re grateful for their continued dedication and wish the patient a swift and full recovery,” the organisation said.

Hikers are urged to save the WSAR emergency number (021 937 0300) and call for help as soon as possible in case of an emergency.
