Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has hit back at reports that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season, saying those rumours show a lack of respect.

Nabi was referring to a report which alleged that Chiefs management had already decided to fire Nabi at the end of the season, regardless of the outcome of the Nedbank Cup final.

Chiefs went on to defeat Orlando Pirates in the cup final on May 10, in what was the first piece of silverware in a decade for the Amakhosi.

Still, the cup title did not hide the fact that Chiefs are ninth in the Betway Premiership table and face the prospect of a second season in a row outside the top eight.

Nabi Addresses Departure Rumours with Strong Message to Journalists

“The news comes from a journalist,” Nabi said in a press conference ahead of their league encounter against Sekhukhune United over the weekend.

“And it’s not respect. Why every time (there’s a report about) Nabi is leaving, or staying? Why? This is not good.

“I respect you, I respect all the journalists. I need all journalists to respect me as well.”

Chiefs ended up drawing 1-1 with Sekhukhune, meaning they still have to win their final league outing against Polokwane City this weekend and hope other results go their way to finish in the top eight.

Nabi went on to further explain how the baseless reports negatively affected his side.

“Because this news is bad for me. They create confusion in my team. This is bad, it’s not professional, and it’s not correct.

“The whole of Africa called me because they think I’m free, because I have finished with Kaizer Chiefs, and I’m not. This is incorrect. Please be professional.”
