Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi says he’s surprised by rumours of his exit from the club just days after helping them win their first piece of silverware in a decade.

The Tunisian has been under increasing pressure with the club struggling in the league. However, after their exploits in the Nedbank Cup, he’d be forgiven for thinking he’s bought himself more time.

But, recent reports have suggested the club will call time on Nabi’s tenure when the season ends as they look to go in a different direction.

Speaking to 947’s Robert Marawa on MSW, Nabi was perplexed by the reports.

“I’m very surprised about these rumours and notions because I’m very concentrated for the remaining two games that are coming,” said the Tunisian tactician.

“We are very concentrated for the remaining two games, because it’s very important to finish in the top 8. I don’t want to lose the momentum that the cup has created. I still have a contract and I’m not worried about that.

“I don’t think it’s the best moment to talk about that.

“Kaizer Chiefs is my family. I have a mission and responsibility, today I want to enjoy the success.”

On Monday, Chiefs’ sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr went on 5fm to put out some fires after a Sunday report suggested the club’s management had taken the decision to part ways with Nabi at the end of the season.

“Coach has got another season after this with us now,” Motaung Jr said when speaking to 5fm’s Xoli Zondo.

“At the same time, like we do it after every season, we sit down and review. We know that results in the league have been inconsistent.

“We know we’ve just been able to achieve a record milestone. With everything else, we’re moving forward in our planning and we want to savour this moment, view this moment in a massive way moving forward.

“Galvanise the supporters, galvanise the technical team, the players, the staff for the mission ahead. So, we’re just planning for the future.”
