Kaizer Chiefs are set on securing the services of a Mamelodi Sundowns striker currently on loan.

Chiefs completed another deflating season in the Betway Premiership as they ended ninth, their second league campaign in a row in which they finished outside the top eight.

The goal-scoring battles of Chiefs were well-documented as they netted just 25 times in 28 matches.

According to Soccer Laduma, Chiefs are intent on signing 23-year-old Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro, who is currently on loan to AmaZulu from Sundowns.

Kaizer Chiefs Renew Interest in Etiosa Ighodaro Amid Transfer Speculations

“Yes, it’s true. Chiefs are believed to have enquired about Mamelodi Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro. You know the thing is the same people who scouted him from Nigeria for Sundowns are the same who have enquired about him for Chiefs,” the source was quoted as saying.

“Actually, it’s not the first time they have enquired about him. They tried before when he was on loan at Chippa United, but Sundowns sent him on loan at SuperSport United. But now they are apparently looking at the possibility of Sundowns letting him go, and they can pounce on him,” added the source.

This comes after unsubstantiated rumours emerging that Orlando Pirates forward Monnapule Saleng might be making a move to Chiefs. One former Buccaneers player thinks that would not be a good fit.

The 27-year-old Saleng was believed to have been left out of the side for months due to a salary dispute, although the club has not confirmed this as they remain tight-lipped on the situation.

As one of the best wingers in the country and not known to be nursing any kind of injury, his absence was keenly felt by Pirates supporters this past season.
