Kaizer Chiefs’ Nasreddine Nabi: It won’t be a surprise if we win Soweto Derby

Despite being underdogs for the next instalment of the Soweto Derby, Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi said his side is more than capable of beating Orlando Pirates in their Betway Premiership clash on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 3 pm at FNB Stadium.

Chiefs are without a win in their last six league outings, and have sunk to ninth on the table.

Pirates, though they lost to Sekhukhune United in midweek, are still hoping to keep the pressure on table-topping Mamelodi Sundowns. That will be difficult at nine points behind, even with their two games in hand.

“If Kaizer wins the derby, it’s not going to be a surprise; if Pirates win the derby, it’s also not going to be a surprise. Those are the two biggest clubs in South Africa,” said Nabi.

“Despite our current log standings, we believe that two big clubs are going to play on Saturday, even if we’re not in a good position, but we feel that whoever wins would have earned it.

“We say that the big clubs get ill, but they never die, and we believe that we’re the biggest club in South Africa. Probably at this time we might be a little bit ill, but we’re still alive and can do something.

Meanwhile, Pirates coach José Riveiro will have nothing left to prove in the league as another second-place finish behind Sundowns has become the most likely result.

As for Nabi, a win will be something he and his charges will desperately seek.
