Kaizer Chiefs need to have short memories against Mamelodi Sundowns

The hysteria in SA football is unmatched when Kaizer Chiefs go on a good run, and last season under new coach Nasreddine Nabi there was no stopping the Mighty AmaKhosi after three games in their Betway Premiership campaign.

Then came their fourth league match against Mamelodi Sundowns. Though the match was decided by a goal which caused some controversy due to a much-debated referee’s call, it ended in a deflating 2-1 loss for Chiefs.

It signalled the start of yet another frustrating season for Chiefs and their fans, as Nabi pleaded patience as he vowed to make long-term improvements.

The comparisons are unavoidable, as Chiefs have once again won their first three games in a row, as the two sides face off at FNB Stadium in a 7.30pm kick-off.

Chiefs Return to Form Under Assistant Coach Khalil Ben Youssef; Nabi Set to Rejoin for Crucial Fixture

Of course, Chiefs were without Nabi’s services as the coach attends to a family emergency back home in Tunisia.

However, in his absence, Chiefs have continued to fire on all cylinders as assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef took charge.

Now Nabi is said to be back and ready to lead Chiefs again in this crucial fixture.

Chiefs and Sundowns: Early Season Standings and Title Contenders

With their nine points, Chiefs are second behind unlikely table-toppers Sekhukhune United only on goal difference.

Chiefs beat Richards Bay (1-0), Polokwane City (1-0), and Stellenbosch (2-0) so far in the league.

As usual, Sundowns have made a strong start to their season with two wins and a draw as they are in third spot on seven points.

Sundowns are also still heavy favourites to win their ninth league title in a row, as they are one of the richest clubs in Africa.
