Kaizer Chiefs may be in the unfamiliar position of being higher on the Betway Premiership table than Mamelodi Sundowns heading into their clash on Wednesday, but that won’t mean much for the AmaKhosi. Kick-off is at 7.30pm at FNB Stadium.
Chiefs have made the perfect start to their new league campaign with three wins from three, and therefore are one position ahead of the champions who occupy third spot on the log.
Sundowns have won two and drawn one.
Chiefs midfielder Inacio Miguel warned that underestimating Sundowns would not be a good idea.
Sundowns Remain a Strong Contender Despite Recent MTN8 Loss
“At the end of the day, they [Sundowns] are the PSL winners [having won the last eight editions of the championship]. They have a good team and players,” Miguel said.
Sundowns head into the match off the back of their MTN8 semi-final penalty shootout loss against Orlando Pirates over the weekend.
Little could be read into that cup defeat, explained the 29-year-old Miguel.
“I think people are thinking that because Sundowns lost the game against Pirates, they no longer have confidence … I don’t see it that way. It [losing some matches] is part of football. Sundowns are a big club and they play for big trophies.”

It’s worth noting though, that last season Chiefs had also won their first three matches before taking on Sundowns.
Though the match was decided by a goal which caused some controversy due to a much-debated referee’s call, it ended in a deflating 2-1 loss for Chiefs.
It signalled the start of yet another frustrating season for Chiefs and their fans, as new coach Nasreddine Nabi pleaded patience as he vowed to make long-term improvements.
