As the new Betway Premiership resumed after the international break, Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi explained that he is trying to reduce the numbers of his convoluted squad.

Chiefs have recently welcomed Khanyisa Mayo, Lebohang Maboe, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Paseka Mayo, Thabiso Monyane, and Etiosa Ighodaro to their club.

It’s a strong sign from the club that they are dipping into their chequebooks as they look to become genuine title contenders this season.

However, it’s meant that Chiefs will have a number of players sitting on the sidelines, which could be loaned out to get game time. It’s a good problem to have, Nabi explained.

Squad Reshuffle: Club Plans to Offload Players for More Game Time

“Yes. It is true that the squad is big. The club is working on options to try to offload the squad, especially to give the possibility to some players that didn’t have the consistency or didn’t have enough time to get more time playing (time) into other teams,” said Nabi.

“And as well to some young players to get the experience needed in the PSL into other clubs. Everyone is aware of that and is working around the clock.”

The signing of Khanyisa Mayo was perhaps the biggest recently, and it was also due to the fact that his father, Patrick, had also played for Chiefs from 2003 to 2007.

Mayo was at Cape Town City for three years before the move to CR Belouizdad last season, where he featured mostly off the bench and struggled to find the back of the net regularly.

Now it’s the younger Mayo’s turn to strut his stuff at the Soweto Giants.
