Nasreddine Nabi will not be leaving Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season, which was suggested by a report in one of the Sunday newspapers.

According to the report, Chiefs’ bosses have decided to end Nabi’s tenure, despite ending the club’s 10-year trophy drought on the weekend when they beat Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final in Durban.

With the club in a poor position in the Betway Premiership, speculation about Nabi’s future has been rife in recent weeks. Saturday’s victory over Pirates

However, on 5fm on Monday morning, Chiefs’ sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr dismissed the report, saying the Tunisian was not going anywhere.

“Coach has got another season after this with us now,” Motaung Jr said when speaking to 5fm’s Xoli Zondo on Monday morning.

“At the same time, like we do it after every season, we sit down and review. We know that results in the league have been inconsistent.

“We know we’ve just been able to achieve a record milestone. With everything else, we’re moving forward in our planning and we want to savour this moment, view this moment in a massive way moving forward.

“Galvanise the supporters, galvanise the technical team, the players, the staff for the mission ahead. So, we’re just planning for the future.”

With the club in a poor position in the Betway Premiership, speculation about Nabi’s future has been rife in recent weeks. But, Saturday’s victory over Pirates is thought to have bought him more time.

Should the club decide to part ways with Nabi, the currently jobless Pitso Mosimane’s name will be at the top of the list of possible successors. For the time being, however, Nabi and his technical team will be focussed on finishing the season strongly as they build on the momentum from Saturday’s cup final victory in Durban.

The club will play Sekhukhune United this coming weekend, before rounding off the season when they host Polokwane City next week.
