‘Leave my kids out of it’: Black Coffee’s emotional plea amid viral birthday trolling

Grammy award-winning DJ and producer, Black Coffee (real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo), once again appealed to online trolls, asking them to stop making unwarranted comments about his children.

In a short X post, he shared that people can criticise him whichever way they want; however, when it comes to his children, that’s where he draws the line.

“Troll me, demonise me all you want until maybe you feel better about yourself, but please, please leave my kids out of it,” he wrote.

The DJ recently garnered attention for his lavish three-day celebration in Cape Town to mark his 50th birthday.

The celebrations kicked off with an intimate boat cruise and dinner with close friends and family, then an extravagant gala dinner followed on the second day, with international and local celebs invited. 

The celebrations did not end on the third day, guests attended Casa Coffee, a day event that featured performances by DJ Tira, DJ Maphoria, DJ Bubbles and Coffee as well.

The content shared by guests started circulating on the internet, and what started as admiration from social media users quickly turned into criticism.

Many people online shifted the narrative about how the celebrations were “too grand” and criticised the star-studded guestlist, his girlfriend’s speech, the decor for the gala dinner and started circulating pictures of his five children.

Many social media users were shocked to discover that the DJ has five children, as they had previously believed he only had three.

Furthermore, this is not the first time that Coffee had to take to social media and ask people to stop involving his children in his issues.

In 2025, when his divorce from Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa was finalised, and it became a hot topic on social media, he made a plea, asking people to stop sharing pictures of his children.

Sharing pictures of children without consent or making unpleasant comments on social media can make anyone uncomfortable, celebrities included.

Despite making the plea, some fans commented under the DJ’s recent post, saying that no one was trolling his children; they were trolling him only.

“I have not seen a single post bashing kids, people are just bashing you,” @_Mopediii wrote.

“When you post your family on social media, you must be ready for uncultured and unhappy fools to take out their anger on them, some of us learned the hard way,” @Mfoka_Jobe said.

“Who bashed your beautiful children? Absolutely no one. It’s the philandering ways that has been frowned upon,” @BabablacksheepK commented.
