South Africa is bracing for a week of disruptive weather, as snowfall, dangerous winds and severe storms are expected to affect large parts of the country.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has predicted very cold conditions across most of the country, with disruptive snowfall expected in parts of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Severe thunderstorms are also possible over parts of Gauteng, the Free State, North West and the eastern interior, with localised flooding, hail and damaging winds among the potential impacts.

Roads closed in KZN
Several roads in KwaZulu-Natal have been closed due to heavy snowfall, including the R617 near Kokstad, with traffic diverted to the R56.
Snow chasers are prohibited, and motorists are requested to delay their trips.

Snow has been reported on the Swartberg Pass in the Little Karoo, between Oudtshoorn and Prince Albert in the Western Cape. Motorists have been urged to take extreme care when travelling through the area.
SAWS predicts severe weather
Large parts of the country face disruptive weather into Tuesday. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is forecasting heavy snowfall in the Eastern Cape, damaging winds and rough seas along the KZN coast, disruptive rain in parts of the Eastern Cape and KZN, and severe thunderstorms possible over southern Gauteng, North West and the Free State.
A cold front and cut-off low are expected to bring very cold, windy conditions, with snowfall over mountainous areas and localised flooding, traffic disruptions and damage possible.
