Following the release of L’vovo Derrango’s deeply personal story about surviving a life-changing stroke in 2022 on Gagasi FM, fans have rallied behind him.

Through a public fundraising initiative organised by Yenziwe Qiniso Ndimande, R237 701.45 has been raised for the kwaito star.

L’vovo, real name Thokozani Ndlovu, speaking on Gagasi FM, got candid about collapsing on stage, his weeks in ICU, the financial and emotional challenges he faced during his recovery, his mistakes, lessons and how he now hopes to use his journey to inspire others through resilience, faith and second chances.

His interview touched many listeners and fans of the musician, who then in turn opened their wallets and donated to the musician.

Ndimande on Facebook shared updates on the donations with her fans and emphasised that L’vovo did not ask for the initiative.

“Please note that L’vovo did not ask for donations. Many people were touched by his interview, and from there, we decided to come together and support him.”

Many people, including award-winning musician Khuzani across South Africa, have donated to L’vovo.

The fundraising has a goal of reaching R250 000, and it seems that it will be reached, as many are keen to support L’vovo.

Ndimande shared screenshots of WhatsApp exchanges with the musician and voice notes of him expressing gratitude for what she has done for him.

IOL reached out to L’vovo, but he said “no comment at the moment” as he was looking to have a press conference in Johannesburg next Wednesday.

As L’vovo returns to the spotlight, he hopes his journey will encourage stroke survivors, families facing adversity and anyone who has ever felt that life had knocked them down beyond recovery.
