All roads lead to — well, a big reroute — as several major routes in the Cape Town CBD are closed for the Kaapse Klopse troupes set to strut their stuff during their annual parade on Monday.

Music and colour will fill the streets from late morning as the minstrel troupes step off at 11 am, marching up Somerset Road towards the DHL Stadium.

The parade is organised by the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association.

The City of Cape Town’s traffic department said road closures will be implemented along Main Road, Green Point, between Buitengracht Street and Three Anchor Bay Road, as well as along Helen Suzman Boulevard and Granger Bay Boulevard.

The department’s spokesperson, Kevin Jacob,s said closures were being rolled out in phases from 6 am, with parking restrictions also being enforced along the parade route and nearby side streets.

Gallows Hills Driving Licence Testing Centre was operating on limited services.

Public access to the facility was being provided via Ebenezer Road, but only until 11 am.

No driver’s licence tests were being conducted on the day, while learner’s licence tests were proceeding, though testing times were being adjusted, according to the metro.

Traffic officers were being deployed along the route to manage traffic and ensure pedestrian safety.

The City of Cape Town said motorists were being urged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow the directions of traffic officials.
