Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso and star attacker Lucas Ribeiro Costa have been celebrated for their outstanding performances during May 2025, clinching the prestigious Betway Premiership Monthly Awards.

This recognition marks the third time this season that both Cardoso and Costa have secured these accolades, underscoring their pivotal roles in Sundowns’ triumphant Premiership campaign.

Under the adept leadership of Cardoso, Sundowns achieved a flawless record in May, winning all five of their league fixtures. This impeccable streak showcases its dominance in South African football and its eighth consecutive Betway Premiership title.

Cardoso’s strategic prowess on the touchline allowed him to navigate through intense competition, outperforming coaches such as Ronnie Gabriel of Richards Bay FC and former Orlando Pirates manager Jose Riveiro to claim the Coach of the Month award.

Meanwhile, Costa’s electrifying performances have been a cornerstone of Sundowns’ success. The Brazilian forward’s scoring prowess remained impeccable this month, netting three goals, including a critical strike in a commanding 3-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC on 11 May and a sensational brace against Magesi FC in the season’s closing match, which ended in a 2-0 win for Sundowns.

His scoring feats not only earned him the Player of the Month award but also the Goal of the Month accolade for an exquisite finish against Magesi, marking his third such recognition of the season.

Costa’s achievements are a testament to his skill and dedication, especially considering the fierce competition among his teammates, including Iqraam Rayners and Marcello Allende, who also played vital roles in the team’s success.

As the season draws to a close, the collective efforts of Cardoso, Costa, and the entire Sundowns squad signify a historic chapter in South African domestic football.
