A 52-year-old man made his first court appearance this week on charges of fraud after he submitted a false proof of income in support of an application for vehicle finance.
On Friday, Ulrich Jongbloed, 52, appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court, where his matter was postponed for a bail application. Jongbloed remains in custody and will appear in court again on July 2, confirmed Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani.
He was arrested on June 25 by the Bellville Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team for alleged fraud.
“It is alleged that the suspect, in September 2023, approached a dealership for a used 2018 Toyota Fortuner and submitted false proof of income in support of an application for vehicle finance to the value of R658,692, which is inclusive of VAT as per the agreement, inflated to over R1.1 million.
“The application was approved by the bank, and consequently he collected the vehicle. The bank discovered that four months after the application was approved, no further payments were received in the account. WesBank conducted a forensic audit and noticed that the suspect used fraudulent documents during his application,” said Hani.
The matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit in Bellville for further probing.
Hani said: “Following a thorough investigation, a warrant of arrest was obtained and executed, which led to his arrest on June 25, 2026, at his residence in Mowbray.”
Jongbloed now faces multiple charges, including fraud, forgery, uttering, and conspiracy to commit fraud.
