In an almost identical performance to his debut event on the breakaway tour, South Africa’s Martin Vorster finished with close to R5m in earnings at LIV Golf New York on Sunday.

Vorster finished tied 32nd at the event, and earned $153,250 for his efforts, which works out to R2.49m.

In the team competition, Vorster, alongside his Southern Guards GC (SGGC) teammates Dean Burmester, Branden Grace, and Charl Schwartzel, finished in seventh place.

That earned the four players another $550,027 (R8.94m), which works out to R2.22m each.

Vorster’s Unexpected Windfall: Earning R9.61m at LIV Golf Events

It means the 24-year-old Vorster made R4.71m for his four days’ work.

Last week at LIV Golf UK,  Vorster bagged approximately R2.45m for his individual effort of 31st place. He collected another R2.44m thanks to his share of SGGC’s team prize money.

That means for the two LIV Golf events he’s played, Vorster has now earned R9,61m.

It’s a staggering windfall from a couple of tournaments he likely never expected to play. Vorster was flown in as a last-minute replacement for Louis Oosthuizen, who was sidelined by a recurring back injury and did not recover for the second event either, allowing the youngster to play again.

That first R4.9m payday alone at LIV Golf UK instantly eclipsed Vorster’s entire lifetime earnings on the Sunshine Tour, which currently stand at R4.5m. Prior to his trip to the UK, his biggest single cheque was R769,618 at the MyGolfLife Open—a moment where he likely thought he had truly hit the big time.
