Robert Cosby Jr., the 23-year-old son of “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star Mary Cosby, has died.
The tragic news was first reported by TMZ. Two days after he was found dead, Mary confirmed the loss in a deeply emotional statement shared on social media.
According to a spokesperson for the Salt Lake City Police Department, officers responded to a “possible overdose” on February 23.
No official cause of death has been confirmed, and the medical examiner is continuing to investigate.
In her statement, which she shared on social media, Mary wrote: “Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord. Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”
Robert Jr. appeared alongside his mother over the years on “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” offering viewers glimpses into their close, and at times complicated, relationship.
Mary had previously spoken openly on the show about her son’s struggles with substance abuse, a topic she addressed with visible emotion.
During the Season 6 reunion of RHOSLC, Mary confronted growing concerns about her son’s well-being.
Speaking candidly, she said, “I know he’s somewhere where he’s not using. At some point, I have to step back so that he can learn and he can make his own decisions, and unfortunately, he’s learning the hard way. But I’m ok with it.”
Her comments at the time highlighted the painful balance many parents face when navigating addiction within their families, offering support while also allowing space for accountability and growth.
Robert Jr. was Mary’s only child, whom she shared with her husband, Robert Cosby Sr.
