A luxury Ferrari linked to businessman Morgan Maumela is set to go under the hammer from Friday, November 6, 2026, as investigations continue into the alleged looting of approximately R2 billion from Tembisa Hospital.
This comes after the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) uncovered alleged corruption and maladministration involving approximately R2 billion at Tembisa Hospital.
The investigation exposed suspected procurement fraud and irregular contracts involving several syndicates, including one allegedly linked to Maumela.
The SIU confirmed that the Ferrari SF90 Stradale will be auctioned for a minimum of R9.5 million following an order granted by the Special Tribunal.
SIU spokesperson Selby Makgotho said Maumela’s Ferrari is up for auction from November 6, 2026.
High Court dismisses bid to block Ferrari sale
The auction comes after the Pretoria High Court recently dismissed an urgent application by Maumela and the trustees of the MHR Maumela Family Trust seeking to prevent the sale of the luxury vehicle.
Makgotho said the court ruling cleared the way for the SIU-appointed curator to proceed with the auction.
“Following a Special Tribunal order, the SIU-appointed curator can sell the SF90 Stradale for at least R9.5 million, with proceeds held in an interest-bearing trust account until civil proceedings end,” Makgotho said.
The proceeds will remain in the trust account pending the outcome of the civil proceedings.
Ferrari linked to R2 billion Tembisa Hospital investigation
The Ferrari was among several luxury vehicles preserved in September 2025 as part of the SIU’s investigation into alleged corruption and maladministration at Tembisa Hospital.
“The Ferrari was among luxury vehicles preserved in September 2025 amid an SIU investigation into alleged corruption and maladministration at Tembisa Hospital, where about R2 billion was allegedly looted,” Makgotho said.
