Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has come out with some fighting talk after the club failed in their bid to secure a top half finish in the Betway Premiership.
Amakhosi could only manage a goalless draw against Polokwane City last weekend, which condemned them to a second season in a row where they finished outside of the top eight.
Under Nabi, though, the club were able to win the Nedbank Cup after beating rivals Orlando Pirates in the final. That win at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban ended a trophy drought which stretched ten years.
But, despite the win in the Cup, Nabi felt the rebuilding at Kaizer Chiefs was an ongoing process.
“We working for coherence, it’s not possible to say ah we won we are very and if you lose it’s a process, if I win, if I lose, it’s still a process. Why do we need so much time in this process? Because it’s clear for us what direction this needs, what technical decisions are needed,” the Tunisian said, as quoted by iDiskiTimes.
“If you observe and analyse with objectivity, we are number two in chances created, but why don’t we score? Like today [Saturday] was like the entire season, three or four opportunities, we hit the post, this is the problem of the team this season.
He went on to say: “I’m not a small coach, I’m not happy for the Nedbank, I’m not a small coach, not in a small team, I’m in a big team – it should be normal for Chiefs to win and play for the Nedbank title, you understand me?
“I want every season, Chiefs need to play for the title. this is my objective, I am honest, I don’t need to defend myself – I know my quality, I have big confidence…”
It remains to be seen what missing out on the top eight has on the end-of-season meeting between the coach and the coach. Immediately after winning the Nedbank Cup, sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr went on 5fm and said the club “needed” to finish the season in the top eight.
