Some social grant beneficiaries have still not received their grant payouts
Its truly been a Janu-worry for some social grant recipients, with reports suggesting that nearly 150,000 grant recipients in the Western Cape had not received their grants on time this month. The Western Cape Social Development’s Sharna Fernandez says that SASSA is blaming this on grant recipients providing incorrect banking information when they had applied for the grant or changed their payment methods
Almost time for school…. learners to get their shots
Its almost time for learners to get back to school and for the grade 1’s to try on their new uniforms and enter big school and start their schooling careers. But with that also comes the exposure to airborne viruses which children can often pick-up on the playground or in the classroom. The City’s Health Directorate is now urging parents and guardians to ensure that their children have been immunised against illnesses such as polio, measles, tetanus, hepatitis B, TB and meningitis.
Theft of pink buoys can cost someone their life – NSRI
Water safety remains a huge concern in South Africa, especially as locals try to cool off in water bodies inland and on the coast. With this the National Sea Rescue Institute says their goal is to prevent drowning through rescue operations, education and prevention initiatives, but it needs the help of the public to ensure equipment is safe and available to use for public rescues. NSRI Spokesperson Andrew Ingram says that Pink Rescue Buoys which are used at selected beaches, rivers and dams throughout South Africa had been stolen during the holiday period, adding that the theft can cost someone their life
NKZ announces her retirement from parliament
At 74 ANC NEC member Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma is set to retire from Parliament ahead of this year’s elections. She informed the party of her resignation, saying she would not be returning to Parliament after the general elections. Currently the ANC is in the process of interviewing candidates for the national list to stand for a seat in Parliament after nominations from the branches, with 200 interviews of the 300 interview already taken place.

Denmark has a king and its first Australian born monarch
Its a new era for Denmark as King Frederik X has taken over as monarch after his mother Queen Margrethe abdicated the throne. This marks the end of the queen’s 52 year reign as Denmark’s longest serving monarch and she becomes the first Danish monarch in nearly 900 years to abdicate voluntarily. Frederik’s succession to the throne also makes his wife, Mary Donaldson the first Australian born monarch as she becomes queen consort of Denmark.
