October is shaping up to be a busy month on the Cape Town events calendar, with something for almost every kind of entertainment seeker.
There are major live music shows, ballet and independent film, while families can head outdoors for giant kites or take part in one of the city’s most recognisable Halloween traditions.
Here are some of the October events in Cape Town worth adding to your calendar.
Elysium
Cape Ballet Africa opens its spring season with “Elysium”, a quadruple bill bringing together works by George Balanchine, Nacho Duato, Kenneth Tindall and Michelle Reid.
The programme explores love, resilience, transformation and joy through contrasting styles of choreography.
The production runs for one week at The Baxter, with evening performances, weekend matinees and a special performance for seniors.

R&B hitmaker Ne-Yo brings his live show to Cape Town as part of his 2026 international tour.
The three-time Grammy winner is known for songs including “So Sick” and “Miss Independent”, making this a nostalgia-filled night for fans of 2000s and 2010s R&B.

Cape Orchid Spring Show
If you prefer flowers to flashing lights, the Cape Orchid Society’s Spring Show offers a quieter weekend outing.
Visitors can see orchids displayed by society members and private growers, chat to experienced growers and browse orchids, companion plants and gardening supplies.
Entry is free, making this an accessible option for anyone interested in gardening or simply looking for something different to do.

The inaugural Nelson Mandela Marathon brings thousands of runners and walkers onto Cape Town’s streets for a race centred on Mandela’s legacy.
The 42km route passes through parts of the city including District Six, Parliament, the Company’s Garden and Bo-Kaap before continuing towards the Atlantic seaboard.
Shorter 21km, 10km and 5km options are also available.

Independent and student filmmakers take centre stage at the fourth Observatory Film Festival.
Formerly known as the Obs-cene Film Festival, the community-focused event gives emerging filmmakers an opportunity to screen their work for a live audience.
Film screenings are accompanied by local art and craft vendors, making it as much a community gathering as a night at the movies.

Cape Town City Ballet brings David Nixon’s “Dracula” back to Artscape for Halloween weekend following its earlier run this year.
Inspired by Bram Stoker’s gothic tale, the production uses choreography, music and theatrical design to bring the story of Count Dracula and Jonathan Harker to the stage.
It offers a darker alternative to the usual Halloween entertainment.
