Oswin Appollis could be the next talisman to leave Orlando Pirates following a wide range of reports linking him with an overseas move to Europe.

The reports further underline that interest has come from an unnamed club in France. However, given that the Ligue 1 transfer window closed on September 1, any potential new club would only be allowed to register him in January.

Although the transfer window is closed, Appollis could still be signed and either spend the first half of the season at Pirates or another club, or spend the entire season on loan at a destination preferred by his parent club.

Appollis has endured a mixed start to the season at Pirates. While he has tallied two goals and two assists in five league games – and nine across all competitions – he hasn’t been at his absolute best.

He had an outstanding first season with the Buccaneers. Fitting in seamlessly, he helped the team win a domestic treble, including the Betway Premiership, MTN8, and Carling Knockout.

He carried those exploits over to the national team, helping Bafana Bafana qualify for the Fifa World Cup, where they reached the Round of 32.

Given his stellar form, he was nominated for PSL Footballer of the Season, an award he narrowly lost to teammate Relebohile Mofokeng, who has since moved to Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

Mofokeng is one of several high-profile departures from Pirates in recent months, alongside Patrick Maswanganyi, Deano van Rooyen, and Sipho Mbule. If the reports linking Appollis with a move away prove true, it would explain why the club decided to re-sign Mohau Nkota on a season-long loan deal from Al Ettifaq.
