South African media personality Pearl Thusi recently shared the most vulnerable truth about herself regarding her stance on marriage and why she has chosen to stay single for almost three years now.
Thusi appeared on “The Motherhood Network” podcast with Nandi Madida and candidly said that she does not see herself getting married anytime soon.
She reflected on her parents’ relationship, how abusive it was and tearfully shared that although her father was good, he was also abusive towards her mother and for a long time, she blamed him for her mother’s death.
“So my father had a very tumultuous relationship with my mom. I think it is one of the reasons that I run away from marriage a lot cause I, for a long time, believed that my mom kind of died because she was married.
“My father was abusive to my mother. Whether it was infidelity or her being in a car with him in the middle of the night because he thought she was up to something, he would take her to the middle of the bush and point a gun at her,” she said.
The “Queen Sono” actress added that she feels as if her mother weren’t married, she would still be alive.
“For a long time, I kind of blamed my father for my mother dying,” she said.
The 38-year-old shared that given how her parents’ relationship was, it is one of the reasons why she still does not want to get married any time soon.
“I am open to marriage [but] I am more open to a wedding. I think girls need to start being honest. We really want a wedding, we were convinced it is a part of the journey of being a woman,” she said.
As to why she chose to remain single for such a long time, Thusi said that it’s because of the unpleasant experiences she’s had in her past relationships.
She said that what she went through was traumatic, and she is not willing to go through that again.
“I have a lot of stipulations. I need a contract. People think I’m joking when I say this, but trauma will do this to you. I need it written down because n**gas take too many chances today,” she said.
