Football enthusiasts in Cape Town are in for a treat with the launch of the first-ever Orlando Pirates themed hotel room at the Protea Hotel by Marriott Cape Town Waterfront Breakwater Lodge.

This innovative offering invites fans to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of one of South Africa’s most beloved football clubs.

The unveiling is part of an expanding collaboration between Protea Hotels and Marriott Bonvoy, following a successful introduction of similar themed accommodations at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! by Marriott Johannesburg Melrose Arch. With the latest room, Marriott Bonvoy continues to extend its appeal to football fans in Cape Town, catering not just to local supporters, but also to travelling fans accompanying the team.

“With this launch, we’re extending the Orlando Pirates partnership beyond Johannesburg, giving football fans in Cape Town—and those travelling with the team—a new way to immerse themselves in the spirit of the club and their love for the game while enjoying the city’s vibrant atmosphere,” stated Dorcas Dlamini Mbele, Senior Commercial Director, Sub-Saharan Africa, Marriott International.

The themed room boasts an eye-catching design that seamlessly merges the iconic black-and white of the Orlando Pirates with a coastal ambience reflective of Cape Town. Key features include signed memorabilia dedicated to the club, a custom-designed bathroom with a geometric pattern resembling a soccer ball, and a frameless acrylic panel that pays homage to notable Orlando Pirates players.

However, the pièce de résistance is a striking mural by renowned Cape Town artist Murray Cowan, known as Strange Harvest. This graffiti-inspired artwork encapsulates the fervour of Orlando Pirates fans, depicting a dynamic figure caught mid-shout against a backdrop of Table Mountain, symbolising the club’s connection to its supporters and the city of Cape Town. The mural also features an athletic soccer player in motion, embodying the essence of the beautiful game.

“Orlando Pirates has always been more than just a football club—it’s a legacy, a culture, and a passion that unites our supporters across South Africa. This themed room in Cape Town is a tribute to our fans, offering them a unique way to celebrate their love for the Buccaneers while experiencing world-class hospitality,” expressed Thandi Merafe, Brand Communication & Partnership Manager, Orlando Pirates.
