Politically Aweh will film Poll Dancing at Cape Town’s Homecoming Centre on October 21. The live comedy special will use sketches, interviews, and campaign reporting to help audiences make sense of the upcoming November 4 local government elections.
For two hours, a group of comedians will entertain the crowd with what could look like a cabinet sitting in Parliament, just down the road from the venue where it is performed.
Host KG Mokgadi has headlined Politically Aweh for years, and along with co-host Zoë Human intends to turn the chaos of the upcoming elections into a playful affair; a space where people can laugh at the absurdity of power, politics, and the impossible task of getting anyone to agree on passing any bill.
The cast consists of some heavy hitters in the comedy and political commentary and satire space: author Dan Corder’s brains and beanies meet Dillan Oliphant’s incisive comedy that landed him the Comedian of the Year and Best Solo Show gongs at this year’s Comics’ Choice Awards. Lindy Johnson comes off a successful Ba-Funny Ba-Funny tour, and fresh off his Just Jokes show run, Yaaseen Barnes rounds out the stellar line-up.
Politically Aweh began when founder Stephen Horn wrote its first script in 2017, during the final months of Jacob Zuma’s presidency.
Organisers plan to screen Poll Dancing on YouTube and Cape Town TV before election day on November 3.
