South Africa have a clear picture of their path through the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup after being drawn in Group B, as the country prepares to host the flagship One-Day International tournament for the first time since 2003.
The Proteas will open their campaign against familiar foes New Zealand under the shadow of Table Mountain at Newlands on 9 October 2027.
The draw places South Africa in Group B alongside the Black Caps, England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and a qualifier.
It is a pool that demands immediate momentum. Following their Cape Town opener, South Africa travel to Boland Park in Paarl to face the qualifying nation on 13 October, before heading to St George’s Park in Gqeberha for a massive clash with England on 16 October.
South Africa will face Bangladesh at Kingsmead in Durban on 19 October, before wrapping up their group campaign against Sri Lanka at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on 22 October
GROUP B
Group A features defending champions Australia, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, co-hosts Zimbabwe, and a qualifier. That gets under way on 7 October in Cape Town when Australia face India in a replay of the 2023 final in Ahmedabad.
The broader 14-team spectacle officially starts on 2 October 2027 in Windhoek, Namibia, where the three lowest-ranked nations play off for the final spot in the main draw.
Under the tournament format, the top three sides from Group A and Group B—along with the best fourth-placed team across both pools—will advance to a Super 7 stage to fight for semi-final places.
