Acclaimed writer, TV presenter, and powerhouse multimedia entrepreneur, Scoop Makhathini (born Siyabonga Ngwekazi), has been announced as the host of the 31st edition of the South African Music Awards (Samas).

Scoop Makhathini and the formidable Pamela Mtanga will co-present, forming an effortlessly charismatic and bold duo.

Both Scoop Makhathini and Mtanga are known for bringing energy and dazzle to stages. In April, Scoop Makhathini hosted the Metro FM Music Awards, and in October, Mtanga hosted the Miss South Africa 2025.

2025 has been a big year for Mtanga; she was crowned Style Influencer of the Year at Glamour’s Most Glamorous 2025, hosted the inaugural TikTok Top Creator Awards, and led key events including the Vitality Discover Awards, DSTV Delicious, and the Crème of Nature SA Launch.

Siyabonga Ngwekazi will be hosting the 2025 South African Music Awards.

Sama spokesperson Unati Gwija expressed confidence in the pairing. “The Sama has always been a platform that honours excellence, and our presenters must embody that spirit.

Scoop Makhathini and Mtanga bring a rare combination of experience, authenticity, and cultural resonance. Together they will deliver a hybrid show that is fresh, compelling, and worthy of the legacy of South African music.”

This year’s theme for the Samas is “Flowers For Those Who Keep Our Nation Singing”, a tribute and a metaphor, giving our musicians their flowers while they can still smell them.

“‘Flowers For Those Who Keep Our Nation Singing’ is a call to appreciation, to give our artists their flowers now,” said Gwija.

“It’s about recognising the musicians, producers, composers, and collaborators who continue to make South Africa sing, who turn struggle into sound and rhythm into resilience.”

Set for December 14, the Samas will be hosted in a hybrid format, adapting to the changes the industry faces. Organisers promise to merge physical spectacle with digital innovation, extending the celebration far beyond the auditorium.
