Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ prison release brought forward – but legal battle isn’t over

Sean “Diddy” Combs is officially on the countdown to freedom with a newly updated release date.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the hip hop mogul is now scheduled to leave prison on April 25, 2028, about six weeks earlier than his previous June date.

The change comes down to Diddy’s commitment to his rehabilitation.

He has been actively participating in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) since November 2025.

This intensive program is a major win for federal inmates because finishing it can shave up to a full year off a sentence.

According to online reports, his legal team says he’s been “fully engaged” and focused on personal growth while serving his time at the low-security FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.

It hasn’t been a perfectly smooth ride, though. Diddy’s release timeline has fluctuated over the past year.

His date was briefly pushed back after rumours swirled that he’d been caught with “prison wine” and making unauthorised phone calls, which his lawyers have categorically denied as false.

In 2025, a jury found him guilty on two counts of transportation for purposes of prostitution (violations of the Mann Act). He was acquitted of the more severe charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking by force, which could have led to a life sentence.

He also received credit for the time he spent in custody following his initial arrest in September 2024.

While he’s currently locked in for 2028, his legal team is still fighting to get him out even sooner.

They have also launched a fast-track appeal, arguing his sentence was unconstitutional.

With oral arguments set for April 2026, depending on that outcome, he could potentially see a much earlier release or a new trial.
