The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has arrested a second suspect in connection with the murder of 44-year-old Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member Monica Dube.
Dube was shot and killed in the presence of her family members at her home in Wallmannsthal, east of Pretoria, in June 2026.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the latest arrest followed an intelligence-driven investigation by the PKTT, which positively linked a 39-year-old man to Dube’s murder.
The suspect was arrested by investigators on Tuesday evening.
He is expected to appear before the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where he will face a charge of murder.
According to reports, Dube had previously survived an attempt on her life in March 2026, when she was allegedly shot 11 times.
She spent several weeks in intensive care before recovering.
The arrest follows the detention Sipho Lucky Mahlangu, 34, who made several appearances before the Cullinan Magistrates’ Court where he abandoned his bail application.
It is alleged that during the early hours of June 13, 2026, Mahlangu and an accomplice broke into the deceased’s residence through a window.
The pair allegedly entered her bedroom and shot her in the head while her children were present.
After fleeing the scene, they allegedly stole her cellphone, which was reported missing.
On July 4, Mahlangu was spotted at a taxi rank by the deceased’s daughter, who alerted the police, leading to his subsequent arrest.
